Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
A Conversation with the Founder, Bob Roskamp, and Jai Larman, Executive Director
Freedom Plaza Peoria was designed, built and originally operated by Robert Roskamp, senior living pioneer and philanthropist. In 1987, he formed Freedom Plaza Limited Partnership (FPLP) and teamed up with Sun Health, an Arizona senior living and community health non-profit organization in a joint venture that strengthened the ownership group.
“Freedom Plaza was the first Life Plan community of its kind,” said Mr. Roskamp. “I’m proud to have led the development of such a strong and vibrant sector of the senior living market.”
FPLP retained continuous ownership of the Freedom Plaza campus, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing until 2025, when Sun Health became the community’s sole owner and manager. Long term goals include supporting the charitable purposes of Roskamp Institute and Sun Health Foundation.

Roskamp Institute https://www.roskampinstitute.org
Roskamp Institute, the world-renowned research facility established in 2003 in Sarasota, Florida, has made important discoveries with profound clinical implications for the millions of Americans with neurological disorders. Roskamp Institute was established with the goal of becoming a primary international site for leading-edge research on neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. Today, Roskamp Institute is recognized as a leader in the global effort to better understand and ultimately cure debilitating diseases of the mind. In 2010, the Foundation’s governing board determined that the growth of Roskamp Institute could be accommodated by a change in status from a private operating foundation to an independent public charity. With this change in structure Roskamp Foundation’s two principals, Bob and Diane Roskamp, made an important gift to the world health community, providing substantial resources to aid the discovery in new drugs and treatments for depilating diseases of the brain.
